#5 FAMILIAR (dir. Richard Powell) “Robert Nolan conveys the pitiable and horrific emotions of a middle aged family man that views his wedding ring as an anchor dragging him clawing and screaming underwater. Told mostly through his character’s inner dialogue, Nolan delivers a chilling performance, outwardly smiling while conspiring to conflict horror upon horror on his wife. The ending delivers a bit of gruesomeness via a reveal that feels a bit tacked on for the horror crowd, but there’s no dismissing Nolan’s turn as a sweater wearing sociopath.”
